Oil & Gas Initiative
Gulf Coast Oil & Gas Initiative
The Gulf Coast Oil & Gas Initiative, managed by the Employer Service Division of Workforce Solutions, is a state-funded program that matches employers with openings to individuals with highly desirable skills, and who can easily transition from the oil and gas industry.

What makes this program different? From engineers to administrative professionals, IT to chief executives, HR to document control, and every position in between, the Gulf Coast Oil and Gas Initiative has access to the largest pool of candidates in the state of Texas. The average participant has more than 10 years' of experience in their field, a bachelor's degree (or higher), and certifications such as Six Sigma, Project Management and Professional Engineer (PE).

As an employer in the Gulf Coast region, you don't need to do much to participate. There's no extra paperwork, or long,
drawn-out process to get involved. All you have to do is ask.

When was the last time anyone offered you this kind of service just because you asked?
Houston alone accounts for over 42% of the nation's base petrochemical capacity.
Community College Petrochemical Initiative
With the petrochemical industry expected to grow 30% in the next 10 years and 50% of the industry's workers retiring in the next few years, petrochemical companies need to build their workforce now.  The Gulf Coast Region is not only home to 13 of the industry's largest companies, but also the home base for the Community College Petrochemical Initiative which serves to provide skills training for the region's businesses and industries.

People who work in the petrochemical industry may be responsible for keeping a manufacturing plant running efficiently, designing new ways to use petrochemicals, maintaining high-tech equipment, managing safety programs, negotiating deals with suppliers and vendors, refining processes, or solving problems in a team environment.  Regardless of the role, the petrochemical industry needs people who are detail-oriented, reliable, and safety conscious.  Industry hiring managers report that they also look for someone who can pass random drug screenings, pass a background check upon hire, show up on time, and work well in a team. They want employees to be able to follow instructions, speak and understand English well enough to communicate with co-workers and managers, and understand how to solve problems.

Workforce Solutions has a prime opportunity to introduce young adults to this key industry, match skilled talent to current openings with petrochemical companies, and help job seekers discover the growth opportunities within the petrochemical industry.  Interested candidates should visit, www.petrochemworks.com. It provides information on the types of jobs available within the industry, employers that are currently hiring, and training & education options.
