National Aeronautics and Space Administration - Johnson Space Center was opened in 1963 on property donated by Rice University to support human spaceflight activities. These activities are performed within the 100 buildings constructed on 1,620 acres and include the Mission Control Center for the Shuttle and International Space Station, astronaut training at the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory and the Sonny Carter Training Facility, and so much more which can be found on the JSC website.
Johnson Space Center leads NASA’s flight-related scientific and medical research programs. Technologies developed for spaceflight are now in use in many areas of medicine, energy, transportation, agriculture, communications and electronics.
Aerospace companies are supported by the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership and the Greater Houston Partnership. Both organizations are dedicated to retaining current companies, seeking new commercial aerospace business, and small business entrepreneurial ventures. The Gulf Coast Workforce Board partners with these economic development organizations to support workforce development for current and future employees in this dynamic industry. |
